The Wonderland Ten

Name: Violet LeBeaux

Blog Name: Violet LeBeaux- Tales of an Ingénue

1. What made you decide to start a blog?

I’ve been running a blog on and off for maybe 5 years now, I started out on Livejournal when I moved cities and wanted to meet new people. My current blog started just over a year ago and it was a way for me to chronicle what was going on in my life, my wardrobe and hopefully show other people ways to pretty up their own lives.

2. How would you describe your blog in 10 words or less?

Making pretty things in crafty hime gyaru ways!

3. How did you come up with the name for your blog?

Well it’s my online name, the “Tales of an Ingénue” part gets some interesting reactions because it’s not a commonly used word anymore. An Ingenue is a stock character from old films and plays. This is how Wikipedia explains it:

The ingénue (pronounced /ˈænʒənuː/) is a stock character in literature, film, and a role type in the theatre; generally a girl or a young woman who is endearingly innocent and wholesome.
Typically, the ingenue is beautiful, gentle, sweet, virginal, and often naïve, in mental or emotional danger, or even physical danger, usually a target of The Cad; whom she may have mistaken for The Hero. Due to lack of independence, the ingenue usually lives with her father or a father figure (although in some rare cases she lives with a mother figure). The vamp is often a foil for the ingenue (or the damsel in distress, for that matter).
In opera and musical theatre, the ingenue is usually sung by a lyric soprano. The ingenue stereotypically has the fawn-eyed innocence of a child.
The ingenue is often accompanied with a romantic side plot. This romance is usually considered pure and harmless to both participants. In many cases, but not all, the male participant is just as innocent as the ingenue is. The ingenue is also similar to the girl next door archetype.
Ingenue may also refer to a new young actress or one typecast in such roles.

I spent a lot of time working in theaters and the Ingenue stock character suited my life and my blog from a lot of different perspectives. Because of the way I look I tend to be typecast into that role whether or not it’s accurate :)

4. What’s your favorite thing about running your blog?

Meeting my awesome readers! Running my blog has lead me to meet the people that I consider to be some of my best friends both online and in real life! It great to connect with people who have similar interests from all over the world!

5. What advice would you give to people out there who want to start their own blog?

You need to have a lot of perseverance and hard work! When you first start out it takes a lot of time to get people to read and comment, it can feel like you’re writing to no one but eventually if you keep at you can do awesome things. I think people sometimes assume that there is no work that goes into blogging, but my posts can take several hours to make so it really is a labor of love!

6. List one of each of the following categories that you would recommend as a source of inspiration:

Book: The Looking Glass Wars

Movie: Casanova with David Tenant. Ok technically it was a BBC mini-series but I’m counting it!

Blog: I read so many it’s hard to narrow it down to just one!

Artist: Imai Kira is an obvious choice but I love her work anyway!

Music: I’m a big fan of swing and old rockabilly music

7. Where’s your favorite place to daydream?

I like to think about things in bed just before I go to sleep but sometimes it feels like the only time I get time to relax is in the shower.

8. What stores do you like to shop at?

Of course I love all of the awesome brand stores in Japan but my favorite places are thrift stores and $2 junk stores. I love finding one of a kind pieces or things you wouldn’t normally think would work in my style and incorporating them into my outfits.

9. If you could have an item from any story, what item would you want to have?

From any store or any story? From any story I think I would like the White Queen’s Crown from Alice in Wonderland.
From any store I would loooove a huge ridiculous fur trim jacket from Jesus Diamante. Like this one: http://www.jesusdiamante.com/lineup/new/20090821j.shtml

10. And lastly, it wouldn’t be Wonderland without a tea party… so what type of tea would you like?

English breakfast please!
